Photovoltaic Solar Energy

Photovoltaic Solar Energy Photovoltaic solar energy has been in existence for quite a long time but now with new technology it could be taken to a level not seen before. Today, solar cells have been lined with silicon (which is a semi conductor) and what happens is that when the rays of the sun falls on the cell a part this solar energy gets converted into electrical energy. Today, you will find calculators and quite a few watches which function on photovoltaic energy. The beauty of photovoltaic energy is that it can be renewed all the time since it is the sun which is the source of this energy and hopefully the sun should not be dying, for atleast, many, many more years. The same cannot be said regarding fossil fuel which definitely, at the rate which we are using, is getting depleted and would one day be completely over.

The day would not be far off, when photovoltaic solar energy will be used to power houses across the country. Today photovoltaic energy is used by people on an individual basis, in their homes but it is quite possible that in the near future the energy of the sun could be used to supply power through the grids and this could be used to power communities and homes throughout the country.

Photovoltaic solar energy uses a combination of physics and chemistry to produce an electrical current. The silicon which when it is in its pure form, is not a good conductor of electricity but when phosphorus is added the resultant impurity causes the same silicon to then become a good conductor of electricity.

Solar panels or modules contain many photovoltaic cells which are configured in a specific pattern. Within the module each cell produces the same amount of energy which would be contained in a battery which is used in a pencil torch. Each module is configured with cells in multiples of the figure twelve, which means that modules would come in twelve, twenty four, thirty six volts and so forth. As more and more people begin realizing the need to become conservative with the use of energy and the pressing need for using green energy sources, the solar energy cost would progressively come down and become cost effective. One thing what we need to remember is that obviously on rainy or cloudy days, the amount of photovoltaic solar energy which is generated may be only about ten percent of what is generated on a sunny day.

Apart from photovoltaic solar energy, wind energy providers would also be a good, alternative source of energy.
